A carpet or tile cleaning professional is working with one of your most valuable assets. Should it be trusted to just anyone? When you need to hire a plumber, or electrician, would you hire someone without formal training or a license?
Unfortunately, many cleaners have no formal training whatsoever. They figure it’s a menial task anyone can perform. Many consumers willingly pay for inferior service, because they have not been educated as to what to expect from a cleaning professional. Many don’t realize that low prices mean low quality. Sadly, some homeowners have found out through a disastrous experience that is certainly does make a huge difference whom you hire. Please don’t learn the hard way.
Fortunately for you, and for me, there are many fine people in the cleaning industry who realized the standard must be raised. In order to accomplish that, the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) was created. It provides schooling, hands-on training, and exams. They teach fiber identification, carpet and tile construction, cleaning chemistry, cleaning methods, trouble-shooting, and professionalism. After becoming qualified, “Certified Cleaners” must also participate in continuing education to maintain their certification. Interestingly, the carpet manufacturers will not honor a warranty unless the cleaning has been performed by an IICRC Certified Technician, working with an IICRC Certified Firm, using equipment and products approved by the CRI (Carpet & Rug Institute).
