OOPS, A SPILL! WHAT DO I DO?

Don’t Panic!  Grab a white terry towel and start blotting.  (If you don’t have a supply of old white towels, buy several packages at the auto supply store.)  Keep blotting, NOT rubbing, until you don’t get any more liquid up.  Always turn the towel to have a clean area to use, and change when necessary.  You can step on a folded towel to draw a deep spill up. Once you’ve absorbed most the spill, start using carpet spotter. Spray the spot, work it in and let it sit a minute or two.  Blot as before.  Keep spraying and blotting until no more color transfers to the towel.  Rinse by spraying with clear water and blotting.  When you’ve done what you can, put down a clean folded towel with a weight on it to draw any remaining moisture up.  That should take care of it.  If not, give us a call for our guaranteed stain removal. “Preventative” Spring Cleaning

Keep Spring Cleaning To  A Minimum!  Keep a spray bottle of all purpose cleaner under each sink. Mount a small towel bar inside the cabinet door for 2 micro-fiber cloths (one for mirrors, one for sinks). Make a habit of wiping the sink and counter after each use. Keep baking soda in the bathroom cabinet. After you flush the toilet, sprinkle 1/4 cup into the wet bowl. Take your shower and then give the bowl a single scrub. Flush to rinse. Put a good-sized squeegee inside your shower and make a habit of wiping down the walls after each shower. Have your Micro-Fiber Floor Mop handy to clean kitchen and bathroom floors often. This eliminates a tough buildup of soil. Keep outside walkways, entries and garage floors clean to avoid tracking in debris and oily soil. Use large entrance mats. Use quality reusable electrostatic filters for HVAC systems. Wash monthly. This will keep dust down inside the house. Use quality vacuum equipment and high-efficiency vacuum filter bags. Again, this will help eliminate dust and allergens, and prolong your carpet’s life. Have carpet protector and fabric protector [...]

How to Enjoy “Spring Cleaning”

The easiest way to “spring clean” is to do a little all year long!  Sneak some little deep cleaning chore into every cleaning session.  Clean out one cupboard or one drawer; do the high dusting;  wash one set of curtains or one shelf of dusty goblets in the china hutch.  Don’t fail to act when the impulse strikes!  If an urge to clean or organize suddenly comes over you, don’t let anything stand in your way—no matter what time or season it is. How can you create the urge if it doesn't come naturally? Get into your “cleaning uniform”. Include a work apron with pockets to carry cleaning cloths and tools. Organize a cleaning caddy that is always stocked with the right tools and enough cleaning solutions. Start early in the day, put on lively music and challenge yourself to do the job more quickly and efficiently than before. After you’ve finished, a little reward is in order! 2 Easy Tips To Help Your Carpet Look Great Between Regular Cleanings

1)    Use good quality, absorbent entrance mats both inside and outside your doors.  They should be long enough to allow 3-4 footsteps to remove 95% of the soil on your shoes.  (It always helps to train husband and children to wipe their feet, too.)  Clean the mats often.  Note:  While entrance mats are a must, be careful about using scatter rugs on the rest of the carpet.  The dyes in the rug could bleed, or a latex backing may cause discoloration.  They can also be a trip hazard.  2)     Vacuum the main walkways more often;  several times a week if you have a family.  Don’t rush the vacuuming.  Move slowly so the machine can do its job.  (Change the vacuum bag when it’s 1/3 - 1/2 full to allow for the best suction.) What Can You Do To Keep Your Carpet Beautiful?

You made a big investment in carpet.  You want it to look great for a long time.  What is the single most important thing You can do?  In a word, Vacuum!  Do you love vacuuming?  I thought not!  So here are a few tips to make your work really count… 1) Vacuum Properly: Take your time! Your vacuum will do its’ job better, and you won’t get worn out. Don’t bend over. Stand straight and take shorter strokes. Guide the vacuum, rather than pushing it strenuously. Try to develop good “vacuum posture”. Take a few more minutes to have a cleaner carpet and no sore back! Change the pattern of your strokes.   From time to time vacuum at right angles to the direction you normally go. Reverse directions down the hall - it’s good for the carpet pile. Use the proper pile height setting. The roller bar should just flick the top of the carpet. Too high and it can’t do it’s job, too low and it wears out the vacuum and carpet (and you)!  2) Maintain Your Vacuum: Change the bag when it’s 1/3 to [...]

Which Cleaning Method Is Best?

The best method is the one that truly cleans your carpet! Hidden soil is your carpet’s worst enemy.  Grit causes abrasion, weakening the fibers and wearing out the carpet more quickly.   Extracting that soil is the key to keeping your carpet beautiful for many years.   Shampooing and “Dry-Chem” methods only clean the surface of the carpet.  The hidden soil is not removed and a residue is left which causes rapid re-soiling.   Carpet Manufacturers will honor a warranty only if your carpet is regularly cleaned by the “Hot Water Extraction” method, commonly called steam cleaning. This method (using a van-mounted machine) applies hot water to your carpet, flushing out the soil which is then extracted by a very powerful vacuum.   In addition to using this recommended method, CleanSource preconditions all the fibers with a powerful, natural cleaner (just like pre-spotting laundry, preconditioning cleans much better). We use a rotary jet extractor to deep clean all sides of the fibers and use a clear, soft water rinse to eliminate residue (would you skip the rinse cycle on your laundry?).   This more labor- intensive method [...]

Will Carpet Protector Need To Be Reapplied?

Think of Carpet Protector like the wax you put on your car to protect the paint and finish.  It wears off and needs to be reapplied.  Carpet protector safeguards the carpet fibers.  It’s designed to take the beating so the carpet fibers do not.  Protector wears off due to constant walking, vacuuming, wear and cleaning.  It’s best to have protector reapplied on a regular basis to replenish what wears off with normal living. I Don’t Have Kids Or Pets, Should I Buy Carpet Protection?

Carpet Protector will help prevent any kind of staining.  Unprotected “traffic lanes” can stain and wear more quickly. Carpet protection helps prevent the extra soil from sticking to the fibers so your vacuuming will be more effective (reducing wear from abrasive grit), and staining will be greatly reduced.   Your carpet will last longer and look nicer for many more years.  Carpet Protection costs more at the time of cleaning, but will save thousands of dollars on premature carpet replacement.   For all residents of Sedona, Village of Oak Creek, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Camp Verde, call CleanSource, 928-646-6300  for Carpet, Tile & Grout, Natural Stone & Upholstery cleaning.

How Does My HVAC System Affect Carpet Soiling?

Using high-efficiency air filters in your HVAC system and changing/cleaning them regularly can keep your carpet cleaner. The more dust and particles removed by the filter, the less will fall in the carpet!  Plus, you'll notice a positive difference in how much you have to dust your furniture.  (Who doesn't like less housework?) For all residents of Sedona, Village of Oak Creek, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Camp Verde, call CleanSource, 928-646-6300  for Carpet, Tile & Grout, Natural Stone & Upholstery cleaning.

Tips For Problem Spots

Some spots are a real test of patience, but working at them carefully will help ensure success. NEVER RUB, ALWAYS BLOT FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE SPOT IN. Printer Toner Pollen (from your bouquet of lilies) Mud (always allow to dry first) Vacuum up carefully with the end of the hose nozzle, making sure you’re not spreading the powder.  Once you have vacuumed up every particle you can, then try blotting carefully with our professional spotter, until you get nothing more up on the towel.  If there is still a stain, call us for help.
